Not really an alternative, since the point of the Envy is the CPU it has, the GPU it has, and the memory capacity it has in the thin and light body it has. If you don't need that (and don't mind a machine that looks like a Star Wars toy), then, yes, the Asus is the orange, as opposed to the apple, for you.

Has there been any word as to whether HP intends to update the trackpad on the Envy line with something more functional? I think that would improve the allure of both models quite a bit.

It's probably up to the company that actually makes the trackpad (Synaptics? Alps?) Either way, I'm sure an update is being worked on and will be released shortly. They have gotten a lot of slack for the trackpad (despite it not being that bad actually).

Yeah, it seems to work when I played with the trackpad. I didn't experience any of the nuances that Engadget experienced in their review.

Oh really? So you could two finger scroll and such without a problem?

Worked just fine when I tried it. I found out a dude had bought one a couple of floors down and shamelessly asked him to let me play with it.

Is there anything you didn't like about it?

    Cost.

    I'm cheap.

But no doubt, it looks great.

If HP would re-engineer the laptop to put in an internal bluray drive, I would be first in line to get one. Until then, the SONY FW will have to do for me.
