It should be one of HP's biggest issues at hand. Dell is going to best Buy and when people line up the HP and the Dell they will find that the Dells have better confg for cheaper. So HP desperately need to update there line with much better GPU's new designs are not needed just minor updates, maybe a price cut.

They will have to redesign the case in order to fit a faster GPU like the 86xx gt etc.. Last time they keep everything the same and changed the chip set.. This time they need to redo the entire case etc... And your right, they will have to make room for faster GPU's now. But one of the reasons HP is so successful is their Global sales division. HP is killing Dell in overseas sales. I don't think that will change. HP's market share in China and other countries is growing huge.

That is odd because I go to Turkey every year for 2 months and there I find the big sellers to be Toshiba and Sony. But I think the only reason why dell is losing sales is because they are not in BB or anywhere else for that matter. But now HP is going to have to make there products better.

I'm not sure where you are shopping for laptops at, but Dell has always been more expensive of the two notebooks. And I expect this trend to continue for as long as Dell keeps trying to whore the "Dell" name to earn money. Which is exactly the reason why I have a problem buying Dell prodcuts: you pay a premium for having the Dell name, and not neccessarily getting much of anything in return.

I agree with HI DesertNM, HP can't just throw in a faster GPU which they need across the board IMO. An entire redesign is going to be required and fast to compete with Dell. And they also need an answer to the XPS line because if I were looking for a new lappy now and comparing a dv6500t to the m1530 I would go with the latter despite my HP fanboy status. But the sooner we start seeing that Voodoo DNA showing up on notebooks the better.

We're all talking here like HP's getting their butt kicked in the market.

HP is beating Dell, and just because Dell is going B&M doesn't mean it's a miraculous pill that'll give it majority market share back. If anything, Dell will move up a little and maybe tie HP. HP is doing fine for itself, and if you go by history, they should have a new line coming out in the first half of 2008.

The reason Dell has "huge savings" is because they consistently offer $200-$300 off coupons every week like they have been for the past 8 months. To me, that isn't "huge savings" that's just Dell's way of scrabbling for business in a market they used to control.

Most people don't know about those coupons until they find a site like this. With the coupons, the prices are extremely low compared to other machines.

The frequency at which Dell releases their coupons perhaps? Besides, if Dell is releasing $200-$300 coupons off their vaunted XPS systems, you know something isn't right in the Dell camp.

In my opinion, Dell XPS series are overpriced for what they are. They are probably offering all those coupons constantly because people don't want to spend that much on a laptop when they can go elsewhere and get the same thing cheaper, or something better for a better price.

do you think we will really get a actual design change? the new models will still be in the same series. im hoping for a change in gpus but its not happening with the current designs. the new ones will probably just have support for 933mhz pyrons :(

Yeah. Dell is going B&M because they need to compete better with HP.

As for when the new systems will come out, my guess is January/February timeframe:

The Spring editions are mostly the current Pavillion design with more new "inspiring" Imprint artwork by popular designers. I think HP is keeping its successful Pavillion design for a while, possibly until Q3 2008.
