I've been considering buying an old HP/Compaq laptop, but as always with HP, I thought twice because of their network card whitelisting process. The laptop in question has an 802.11b card installed (like I said, it's old), so if I were to buy it I'd probably want to swap out the wireless card. Thus, the question becomes, when did HP start whitelisting cards?

What is the model of the laptop in question?

Chances are there will be a whitelist on the laptop that you're referring to, but HP had recently stopped whitelisting wireless cards on their laptops. Most of their laptops produced within the last couple of years no longer have a whitelist and will accept most cards that are currently available.
