I've been waiting patiently for HP to start releasing the drive. But I still don't see anything on their site. If I got a BR drive from a 6700t, would it work?

While not quite what you were asking, I thought I'd mention that high-def movies on a small screen aren't dramatically better-looking than regular DVDs, and without an HDMI jack, you aren't likely going to get 1080p movie playback on an external monitor either.

HP isn't currently selling B-D drives through their parts store, but Newegg and others do sell generic Optiarc drives. Will need to reuse your drive mounting hardware and probably the bezel too. Although prices have fallen into the mid- and low-300 range, I'm a little bothered by reports that power consumption is high and wonder if I should wait for the next generation of drives.

dv2700 has HDMI port *if* you have discrete graphics, which would be 8400M GS on the dv2700 series.

Yea, I like next gen movies for their features and interactivity.
