Which Do you choose when your opening your computer for the First Time

    "Use Recommended Updates"

    "Install Important Updates Only"

    or

    "Ask Me Later" (Basically No)

I am worried using Recommended updates might install bad updates to my laptop.

Windows Updates generally aren't bad updates.

So Use Recommended Updates? Some of them are Microsoft updates too.

I always choose to have Windows alert me to updates and let me check which updates I will install. Mind you, I NEVER download Video or sound card drivers from Windows Update. They are not written in the same way that AMD or Nvidia would write their drivers. Some people on the Envy board downloaded updated AMD HD Graphics drivers and on reboot were greeted with blue and black screens. Many had to enter save mode and uninstall. Two in particular had to do system recoveries...

Be very careful what you install. 90% of MS updates are fine...just know what is going in, so you know what might effect you later

The software for graphics card drivers show up for me in optional updates. Generally you should install all important updates, and review your optional updates and install them.

For HP updates, use the option for ask before installing/downloading. You can decide what to install/not install.

For Windows/Microsoft update, you should be generally fine allowing it to install updates automatically but if you want more control then select the option to ask before installing. Driver updates are optional & so wont be installed automatically.

I never install any driver updates it says are available. Made that mistake once and spent the afternoon getting my laptop working again.
