    Hi.
My new v200z is on the way! Yeah! I'd like to get a 1GB module.
I have read through the old forum posts, but still a bit confused:

Going to chiefvalue.com I find many brands of memory:

Corsair, Crucial ,G.SKILL ,Kingston Technology, Mushkin Enhanced Memory,OCZ Technology, Patriot Memory, PNY Technologies, PQI,Rosewill, Transcend,Viking,Wintec, etc....

For a single 184-Pin DDR 400 SDRAM 1GB (PC 3200) module the price ranges from $75-$125.

    Question:

#1: Does it matter the brand I buy?? Go for the cheapest? Somewhere in the middle?
#2: Do I add the 1GB in and keep the 1.256 total *or* take the 256 out and add the 1GB(since it is DDR 400)??

    Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Trapper

Well you might want to check www.newegg.com and look at the reviews before you buy the RAM. It is a great help. Their prices are really good too. I got 2x1GB sticks of DDR2 533Mhz PC4200 for $160 OTD. It was transcend by the way, and that is actually a branch of Samsung. I get it later today and I will let you know how it goes.

Hope this helps a little bit.

I agree with USAFdude02...I just went to newegg and found the cheapest memory that had a few reviews saying it worked on the compaq laptop.

Is it worth buying the DDR 400(PC 3200) or the cheaper DDR 333 (PC 2700)? This is for a v2000z.

Remember that you need 200 pin chip not 184 pin!!

I would suggest OCZ DDR400 SODIMM for V2000z. It has better timings and little cheaper than others.

    Next is Corsair DDR400.

How important are these timings? There is a review over at Newegg saying the same thing about the OCZ ram...that it will run at cas 3.0 instead of 2.5 on amd64 like everyone elses PC3200 sticks...I assume that is the case for the Semprons as well? Has anyone seen any DDR400 running at CAS 2.5 in these laptops?

Also, this post seems to state that if you want DDR400 speeds the max ram you are likely to get into these laptops is 1.5Gb as the memory controller is not going to be capable of running 2x1Gb sticks at 200MHz if each stick has 16 chips on them. We know for sure that a single 1Gb stick will run at 200MHz but I've yet to see any post here that shows more than that amount running at 200MHz. It sounds like if you want 2Gb you might as well just buy PC2700.

    Am I understanding this correctly?

Yes, OCZ DDR400 CAS 2.5 runs at CAS 2.5 without any problems in V2000z. See my review, it has CPU-z snapshots also with OCZ ram running at CAS 2.5 by default.

Here is the link for that post.

Where as Corsair is CAS 3.0 as per SPD timing and as per Corsair too, but wrongly listed as CAS 2.5 on many websites.

OCZ 1024Mb does not appear to run at CAS 2.5:
