I'm in the market for a new laptop in the next couple months, and was looking around their website.

It seems they are cutting down their lines of laptops.

I bought a HP envy 14 Gen 1 a few years back and it's been great to me! No problems and I really liked the looks! The radiance screen is still as flawless as it was back then. But the 5650 and first gen i5 is starting to show their age. And it's time to sell it to upgrade.

I'm inclined to buy another HP because of how the envy 14 has treated me these lasted few years, but alas, there are no more envys! (besides the ultra book types, which im not looking for)

I was eyeing the envy 15 for awhile, but that disappeared. So was just wondering where are their sexy - high endish Lappys are? Are they working on something spectacular?

The dv6s seem ok, but just doesn't have the sexiness appeal like my envy 14 did (to me anyway)

Maybe bringing back the voodoo line? (haha maybe that's a long shot in the dark).

The high end laptop of HP is now the Spectre I think.

Haha, fellow E14 first gen owner, the Radiance display was one of the best at the sub-$1000 price point!

Interested in seeing what others have to say with respect to a possible direct replacement as I plan to upgrade several months down the road.

I suppose your only option at this time might be an 8470w... Sure, of course, it's a workstation class machine but you have space for two hard drives AND an mSata drive. There's the m2000 gpu which is a moderate card for gaming all wrapped in a very study shell. Then you have the extended batteries for a max of 32 hours. Quad core options and really nice docking stations.

Although it's not a perfect solution it's an 'option' that might be considered. (I've just bought one for £560 from ebay)

P.s. You also have extended ADP warranty options and a 3 year warranty as standard!

Right now the only high-end 15 inch machine is the Spectre XT Touchsmart. It has everything except a dGPU, which sucks given the $1400 starting price.

HP Spectre XT TouchSmart Ultrabook 15t-4000 | HP® Official Store

New 15 inch notebooks could be announced at CES in January. But, the trend nowadays is to produce thin & light laptops with smaller screen sizes & integrated graphics. Powerful 15 inch notebooks are getting sidelined.

    Well, damn!

Purely speculation on my part. But I'm guessing a good chunk of Envy 15 buyers were just people who just wanted portability. Once they came out with all those other thin/lighties, the only people left with a use for the Envy 15 were gamers and moviemakers. All your photographers who needed high-gradient color displays moved onto greener pastures.

I really don't get why they dropped the ENVY 15 and ENVY 17 line either, of course you can say it was to consolidate because the Pavilion dv6 / dv7 were close in specs but the design just really didn't compare as well. Now they've moved the dv6 / dv7 up to the ENVY family it's basically cheapened that brand and HP has no truly premium gaming solution. Lenovo is a company that's going to take market from HP on the consumer front, they're offering better pricing and more enticing products from my perspective. However, I do still think HP offers a good deal on a lot of mid-range laptops and of course the business line is nice.

I do not believe HP targeted the ENVY 15 and 17 to gamers as much as they did to graphic artists (by including the Adobe programs) and people who just want a laptop that seems comparable in build quality to a MBP. We are just fortunate that they came with good enough graphics to game with. Just my opinion.

The new DV6's with the APU's have some good high-end specs. Personally I think they just folded the ENVY line into the DV6/DV7

Any news on this? Nothing special was announced at CES by HP...nothing with dedicated graphics and a 1080p screen at least....

I don't even believe HP knew who they were targeting. The Envy was Rahul Soods baby.. once HP digested Voodoo and his visions, the end result became less clear until he decided to just leave for MS.

The Envy line could have become something really nice if they kept working at it.

There's the 8570w or 8770w - The 8770w also offers a VERY hefty GPU but the price is also quite hefty

Get an 8770W if you can manage the weight, the Dreamcolor display (if configured) on that lappy is absolutely gorgeous. Yep I know it's for professional color applications but who cares, every laptop should have a display like that. The world would be a much better place for it :p.

I remember wanting this so bad when it first came out but at the time I was just a poor college student. Now I'll be settling for an Envy 17 it looks like.

I have an Envy Dv6-7214nr. For me it is brilliant. I have upgraded to 16 GB of ram. The Geforce GT 650M is good enough to average 90 fps on Starcraft 2. Not exactly 100% gaming bred but with some little tweaks I have an amazing gaming machine. It is unfortunate that they don't make the 7214nr before. There isn't a similar spec'd one at this point as far as I know.

i think hp gave up on high end laptops when they came a hairs breath away from giving up on retail computers altogether. Honestly, with the dv8 being such a disaster it isn't surprising. The market just completely turned away from desktop replacement styles.

They are. We were told that they'd be out sometime "this summer" back in May - but there's still another month of summer, and things do get knocked back. Regardless, we'll push for an update.
