I just got my laptop a few days ago...love it. Just wish all those crap programs dident come with it.
But the battery is aweful. I bought a $40 replacement battery for my 5 year old Thinkpad off eBay and it last for over 3 hours. I can get 1.5 maybe 2 hours out of mine.
I typed the batteries part number into the HP site, and they want $250 for the same one that came with the computer.

HP's site bumps the price up on anything. Try different websites aslong as you get a Authentic HP battery. Aftermarket batterys (cheap chinese ones) are known to explode or wreck your laptop.
I havent seen a product recall from HP about exploding batteries, i know sony had one -

Dont type the part number, i noticed my dv2000 and dv2500 have different #'s but they work with each other
Type the series model. Search DV6000 battery -
Even though it's very expensive, I'd buy the battery directly from HP. That's the safest route and you do NOT want your battery to malfunction. If it caught on fire, you HAVE to call the fire department and get away from your laptop. Water and most fire extinguishers cannot deal with an electrical fire. Also, HP would probably drop your warranty and never help you if something went wrong with another battery. Lastly, if you are trying to buy a laptop battery from an online dealer, make sure you properly vet them first.

Go on HP's website and get the model number, then search ebay and google it.

Ebay is your best bet just make sure you check the persons feedback before you buy

Yeah....you always have to do a little research on the people you are buying products from. Also, just a personal opinion, but I would never buy a used laptop battery on ebay, always buy new.

Many HP resellers have original HP batteries in stock as well and is many cases would be cheaper to buy from them rather than HP. You will still be getting the same warranty and original batteries but at a dicount. For example buy.com has the 12 cell HP battery (EV089AA) for $110 while the same battery is $150 on HP's store and if you buy the replacement part from HP Parts store its going to have a much higher markup.
BTW, the above battery should work for your dv6700 as well. I dont notice any changes to the battery specs from the recent upgrade the series received. -
Check out the clean install stickies if you're having problems with all the bloatware.
Where can I buy a battery for my DV6700?
