I had an issue where I could not lower the PowerPlay setting on my laptop without the inverter getting buggy. **** tech support had me flash the bios, and now its the most unstable thing in the world! Its a V2000z with a stick of pc2700(256, unknown) and a stick of Pc3200 (1 gig, a-data) and a 5400 RPM samsung drive. The V2000z does not show up at Compaq's site, so I am just wondering if you guys know where to get the F.06 bios for this pc... Thanks!

Here is the drivers and support link for your Notebook. It has bios F.06 and F.22

Um, thanks, but tried that. The v2000 CTO (not V2000z) bioses don't work. I get "This BIOS is not for your Notebook PC." I have tried:
SP31067
sp31213-will run, but it is the bad bios I am fighting with
sp31101
sp30569
sp30945
all with the same results
Edit* Interesting... This is bios version F.11 I had the HP ram on the slot next to the motherboard and the AData ram on the upper slot. Switching the 2 sticks positions caused the pc to boot right up with NO BLUESCREENING! JOY! I now have my laptop back!
EDIT Lied, nope, spoke too soon -
well it sounds like your adata ram is bad. did you just try using the stock stick? adata isnt exactly a well known name brand...

True and granted, but why then did it work fine under the F.06 bios?

The big "V2000z RAM Conspiracy" thread has had reports like that. The newer BIOS fixes problems with some SODIMM brands and creates them with others. I always advise sticking with major brands (Crucial, Kingston) just because HP isn't likely to test the niche stuff, though they'll occasionally mess up the major brands too.
Always verify your memory with MemTest86+ after adding RAM. In your case, remove the Adata stick, run MemTest, and if that's OK see if you can downgrade to F.06 and try the Adata memory again. I suspect you'll find that F.06 runs your memory well below spec (say, PC2100 instead of PC2700) and that's why it worked. F.11 probably thought it knew how to run your RAM correctly and was wrong.
Or just dig through that Memory Conspiracy thread to find out what you should buy and dump the Adata stick on eBay, after verifying with MemTest that your system runs OK with the single HP-supplied SODIMM. Turions have a high-performance integrated memory controller, they're much pickier than the slower external memory controllers Intel CPUs use. -
The system runs the ram at pc2700 speeds, and thats fine for me. Its much better than running one stick of pc2700 at only 256 megs of Ram. All I am looking for is a link or a site that has my Bios, as the V2000z does not exist on the HP site unless you wish to buy one. I am currently testing my pc with Prime95, and seems fine with the HP ram, despite being dog slow...

Thanks everyone, found the F.06 bios link in the Memory Consparicy thread! I got my 1.2 gigs of ram working again!
Where can I get the correct Bios?
