I bought a Dv7t and it came with a small remote and the basic question i have is:

Where does it go (if there is a slot in the laptop that can hold it)????

I noticed on top of the SD card slot thingy there is a rectangular cover with a symbol on it that is also on the remote (a rectangle with lines coming off of it to the left). Is that supposed to be taken off and the remote slides in there, or is that where you point the remote when you press buttons?

Found no huge help on the net so far. This is probbably a stupid question, but I haven't gotten a laptop that came with a remote before, so i'm new to this particular setup.

Unless it's different than both of our units (see sig), it goes in the Express Card slot just above the card reader. Slide it in face up with the longest end facing out until it latches. To remove, press it in and let it pop out.

Don't feel bad, when we got our DV2700tv I tinkered with that thing for 1/2 an hour.... :)

Exactly. To remove the cover of the ExpressCard slot, push it hard with your finger. You will feel a latch open, then you release your finger and the cover comes out. Remote goes in with the same procedure. ;)

Wow, I am glad I read this thread because I had no clue how to get the "blank" insert out of that slot

Thank you SO much. It felt like a stupid question but that slot is so rigid and tough to get out that it seems like I would have broken it if i did anything lol.

Well, here's another way of looking at it. . . I've read on this forum that it's actually better to leave that slot empty so there's an additional place for hot air to escape the laptop. So, I've been keeping mine empty -- but I wouldn't have any way of knowing if or how much it's helping. And besides, my dv5t came with two remotes, and the other one is actually larger and has many more functions, so that's the one I use anyway.

I have taken apart my two notebooks and i can tell you that leaving it empty is not going to do more than gather dust.

Sorry to hear that. . . I was hoping that by keeping that slot open, I was doing, at least, a little bit of good in the cooling off department.
