To make it short, I upgraded RAM in my nc8430 (replacing the original 512MB RAM with 2x1GB) and now I need to send it for warranty. I want to insert the original 1 piece of RAM, but I don't remmeber where it was located (on the board under the keyboard or inthe expansion slot, accessible from the bottom?

    Thanks,
    Petr

Does HP care if you've upgraded RAM?

I too was planning on upgrading to 2GB when my nc8430 gets here. I was going to sell the 1GB that came with the computer to offset the cost of upgrading, but I might not want to if they won't service it...

i don't think they'll care...i'm almost 100% certain they consider a RAM upgrade as something an end-user can do with little to no trouble.

if you're worried, just call in and ask.

I simply don't want to risk anything. I think RAM should be user upgradable, but I called HP and they say I cannot upgrade it myself. I keep the original 512MB module only for warranty reasons.
