Where is the new home-side laptop that is comparable to their 9420 - ie the dual core laptop with x1600 graphics. Now, I know that this is a brand new laptop and I don't expect to see it straight away - especially since it seems that the business ones haven't shipped yet, but does HP have plans to bring a similar model to the home side?

If they get that, they might get my business, otherwise I can guarantee that I will go somewhere else. The MSI-1039 looks pretty good to me and should be available in around a month.

good question. i went ahead and purchased from the small biz site: http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/ctoBases.asp?ProductLineId=539&FamilyId=2354&jumpid=re_R2515_store/smProdCat/PSG/notebooks/HP_nx9420_notebook - i mean, i couldn't resist those specifications  and the weight. the only shortcoming (for me) is the lack of an expresscard slot :( . the original HD will be my external USB backup solution (Apricorn). then i only have to sell the 1GB stick of DDR2-533MHz RAM on ebay...

i hope to see this rig by the 23rd and i'll let everyone know my initial thoughts. i've got 30 days to decide if it's a keeper

i think rebthor was asking if there is a HP Home version of this 'business notebook' ... me thinks it's the dv8000t ... (for now) ... the x1600 was probably the main reason i went with the nx9420... second was the style/weight over the other core duo rigs out there right now :)

Exactly - it seems that this machine could move a lot of units for HP on their home side. Now maybe they are planning on bringing it over later, as it seems as if they are having some supply problems either with the Duo or with the x1600, but you would think they would at least advertise a machine with this kind of power.

Then again, what do I know? :D

i think there are some definite supply problems with core duo AND the GPUs. cases-in-point being my shopping experience (first choice was the Fujitsu Lifebook N6410 - cancelled due to crazy delays), the delays in more extensive offerings/launches in core due model variations and the shuffling (downgrading?) of GPUs all over the ODM/OEM/reseller spectrum unless you go for the extreme top-dollar units.
