After reading through this forum I've decided to choose the nc8430 over the W3J and am now looking for a good deal on the system.

HP is currently selling the nc8430 RB55UT for $1799
    Processor Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7200 2.0 GHz 667 MHz 4 MB
    Available memory 1 GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM (2x512)
Hard drive 100 GB (5400 rpm) SATA
Optical drive DVD+/-RW SuperMulti with Double Layer
    ATI x1600
    Display size 15.4 in Wide SXGA+ (1680x1050)

    etc.

Are there resellers that offer better discounts than HP? Or that sell a similar model with 1GB x1 DIMM RAM?

Hmmm, Page computers, that name sounds familar...

Ah, I think that is one of the companies I contacted about a HP nx6325 RB526UT#ABA..... Used their "live" support chat" (twice I think) and Never heard back from them, No 800 number either...

Ordered the above unit thru http://www.pcsuperdeals.com/ProductView.asp?ProductID=85090a7f-fa1d-4781-972a-3a96ebdbaf81&Refer=1

Came in a few days, they were quick to answer the phone, take my questions, responded to e-mails..

Brand new in the box, unit is STABLE....

Seems like all the good deals are in CA...and so am I. Must be someone out of CA with a good price on the 8430.

There is another thread HERE about Amuras...buyer's beware. Since they undercut the competition on that notebook by several (almost $1000 in some cases), it is VERY possible that you are getting a refurb notebook instead (despite their advertising it as NEW).

I don't think anyone who purchased from them as yet to confirm that they got a brand new or refurb machine...but the deal does seem a little *too* good.

I agree with night 2004, amuras seems a bit fishy. Also, if you read other threads people have reported that some notebooks shipped without the fingerprint reader etc...best to check resellerratings.com if you are unsure.

    from devlin24 (a member here):

    .

Of course there is me, I too had a great experience with Amuras and my notebook came as described, but no fingerprint reader (which they have modified their site to reflect). My notebook is perfect, untouched, unscratched, no fingerprints. My warranty checks out through HP.

So far, the people that have ACTUALLY dealt with Amuras have nothing but good things to say about the e-tailer and their new NC8430.
