I noticed that some people have bought the L2000 from Sams Club with the following configuration for $999:
AMD Turion64 ML-34
512MB 333MHz DDR
80GB (5400 RPM) hard drive
DVD±R/RW and CD-RW Combo Drive with Double Layer Support
54g 802.11b/g WLAN with 125HSM/SpeedBooster and BroadRange support and Bluetooth
Integrated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN(RJ-45 connector)
ATI Radeon® Xpress 200M IGP with 128MB DDR (shared)
14" WXGA Hi-Definition BrightView Widescreen
6-cell battery
A similar configuration on hpshopping.com gives $1118
So what is missing in the Sam's Club deal (CD's, accessories, inferior equipment)? I was originally going to go for the ML-37 (that's the only difference between my original configuration), but if it saves me around $120 or so, I'd gladly bypass it for the 0.2 GHz difference between the ML-37 and ML-34: or is it not worth it?
Thanks for your input

I'd say that Sam's deal is tough to beat. We paid $1118 for ours though I did get the RAM on one chip, the faster processor and 12-cell battery, so I'm more happy with my config. I should also note that you'll pay tax at Sam's, so that will cut into the savings.

The L2005, I saw, was also featured on Amazon, but with ML-30 and still price at $1099. Of course, it did have $200 mail-in rebates, but it seems strange that Sam's Club is selling it for so low. When Sam's says it sells a "Recovery CD," does that mean that I can't re-install Windows from scratch, or is it just the name for an OEM-version of Windows?
Also, is it possible for me to OC the ML-34 in the Sams Club config to that of a ML-37 without doing much damage to the laptop? Sure, everyone talks about not OC'ing a laptop, but how much more heat is actually produced?
Thanks -
Watch out for the Amazon $200 rebate...I looked at them and on one of them, you have to purchase by July 26, and on the second doesn't start till July 27th, so I'm pretty sure that it's actually only $100 in rebates.

pfft, you're right. I thought it was cheaper than the last time I looked at it. Oh well, too late now, already ordered. Still cheaper though. Lying amazon people.

strategist333,
I ran into same hesitation as you. I bought L2000 from a local Sam's club, and later ordered a customized Compaq v2000z for a higher clock freq (2GHz). It comes with a $50 rebate (for a PC) and a free multi-functional printer (after rebate). I received the pinter two days after via FedEx, while I've been waiting for my PC for almost two weeks now :-(
You may check out on Compaq since they share the same configurations like processor and so on. -
The best place arguably would be Costco because they allow you to customize and return the notebook up to 6 months after you purchase it.
-
Sam's lets you return it in up to six months as well.
-
Is Sams Club's policy a "no questions asked" or do you have to justify your return? What about if you format the hard drive and such, can you still return it?
-
I'm pretty sure most of the time, they ask no questions, at least thats why my local Costco does. They also let me return it even with a formatted hard drive.
-
Costco is the ticket to buy any laptop (that they offer).
Automatically $50 less than HPshopping.com, plus an awesome return policy. (6 months, any reason). -
Do they have a $79 3 year warranty like Sam's Club? -
I think Sam's Club recently removed the L2005 from their product list; I tried searching for it two days ago and it suddenly disappeared. I hope they bring it back, it really is a great deal.

Check again!

Thanks!
Does anyone know if the L2000 is offered at other places besides Sams? Also, has anyone found out a pattern behind Sams' changing product lines? The L2000 as gone out of stock (the only reason I would think that Sam's wouldn't list them) at least twice! Why don't they order more L2000's?

CompUSA but it's more expensive and has a 2.0 chip with 1GB of memory and 100GB hard drive.
Where to buy the L2000
