Sorry..i am a computer novice when it comes to this issue. Why do i need to update the graphics drivers to 11.2? What are the advantages with this new driver? I'm just afraid i will screw up and mess up my switchable graphics. Is it recommended to upgrade or will the laptop function fine with the original driver that came with the envy originally?

    FYI
Though the 11.2 drivers will install; you will lose switchable graphics operation.

On the plus side, the screen brightness keys work.

guys, from the latest posts i have gathered that the 11.2 from ATI's site will install CCC, but not the drivers, while the ones from opendrivers will install both CCC and the drivers? we will sacrifice switchable graphics, but not brightness adjusting...

    Can anyone confirm?

I find this switchable graphics incompatibility extremely annoying. I do not like waiting @ 5 months to update my graphics card since driver updates are so frequent.

I can confirm the drivers linked through opendrivers act as you described.

I read somewhere that if install drivers from the AMD website, it will not update the driver itself. However it may install the driver if you reinstall the driver package again. I have not tried that though.

Edit: Tried the twice install of AMD drivers. Didn't work, as expected.
