    Hi,

When I first got my dv5000z, it had 1 gb of RAM and I was very pleased with its speed and overall performance. A while ago, however I completed a reinstall of the operating system because of some junk that I couldn't get rid of. Now when I look at my system information it says that I only have 256mb of RAM, and my laptops performance is noticeably slower. I am sure that it said 1gb RAM before the reinstall. Any idea why the decrease in RAM and/or performance? Thanks for the help.

Are you sure you updated all your drivers including the chipset/motherboard drivers.

Does the BIOS say you only have 256MB of RAM or just Windows? If the BIOS says 256MB, try reseating your SODIMMs. Remove the battery first so you don't fry anything.
