So this morning my Dv5 decided that it doesnt like my play button (the touch button)
so it no longer lights up, but still works.
It also decided that it doesnt like the color blue so the wireless hard button didnt change color, but still said it was turning on and off my wireless service.
now the wireless works
but the button is still not lit up
what to do, because im on the phone with HP now and i think they are incompetent.

sounds like a driver problem...
reinstall new qtb drivers and reinstall quickplay...
that has worked for most of the quick touch problems my friend -
that didnt work. the play button itself works, but is not lighting up.

The "Quick Launch" button on these new HP's suck....they were not ready to actually be used...my mute QL button gets stuck in mute (it stays red) and no sound will come from the laptop speakers, even though I can see the sound icon in Windows mute/unmute when i press the Mute QL button. The only way to get around this is to restart the Audio Service in Vista. Last night the Wireless QL button was stuck in red but it still worked....to avoid the Mute QL woes, I've started hibernating instead of shutting down to avoid having to restart the drivers every time I boot
I've contacted HP about this twice and I'm supposed to be sending it in for repairs (although now I've noticed its not just me and I'll probably be wasting my time by doing so) but from what I understand HP/FedEx are supposed to send you a box to return the laptop in? I've called twice, once 2 weeks ago and again last week....I haven't received any shipping box, lol
Dell has these new quick launch buttons in their new 13-inch inspiron, i wonder how they work on those.....HP needs updated & functional drivers for this crap, i've restored to factory settings, re-installed the audio & QL drivers multiple times....the thing just doesn't work right.
They all have a delayed response or malfunction altogether -
Yeah man, they have me sending it in for repairs now too. But best buy has given me laptops that break so soon im sick of it and am going to try and complain and get it returned and just get a Vaio or use the money to make a desktop PC

I had a similar problem.
TO FIX THIS PROBLEM DO THE FOLLOWING:
1. Turn off Laptop.
2. Remove battery completely.
3. Turn over the laptop and press power button for 15 secs and then release it.
4. Insert Back the Battery and Power on your laptop.
Please inform me if this works. Thanks. -
no man that doesnt work, thats one of the first things i did. dont worry, i just got the laptop replaced. but it turns out that one was MAJOR DEFECTIVE and erased half of my music library, which i didnt have saved on my external because i deleted it so i could recopy it with the new songs.
Whered my touch button go?
