Hi, I would like to know what the best CPU is that I can replace my T1600 (dual core celeron) with.
Its a CQ60-210TU and Ive updated to latest bios f.65
Battery life is also a consideration being a non-speedstep celeron so if theres not much difference in speed between top choice CPUs Ill pick the one with lower TDP and speedstep I guess.
Can I use 800fsb 45nm CPUs or do I have to stick with 65nm? Ive googled (cpuworld etc) but cant seem to find a list of processors the motherboard supports and I dont know what restrictions HP have done to the bios etc.
Thanks for any help

I'm also interested in this, I swapped out my T1600 for a T3400 a week ago, made quite a noticeable increase in performance. The cpu temp-sensor stopped giving proper readings afterwards, that's a little annoying though... It records the temp at bootup, and doesn't change until next boot. Maybe I'll get lucky and have the next cpu swap remedy the issue...
I have a T9300 coming in the mail, will install and hopefully run that in a few days. If that gets the system running 800mhz fsb, I'm going to try with 2x4gb PC6400 ram. If that works, you know the drill;- SSD, optical bay HD caddy and a new battery. Then I suppose I'll have my laptop computing needs covered for the next ten years!
My notebook is a CQ70-215eo with the gl40 chipset, gma4500m gpu & F.65 bios. Anybody have any successful upgrades on this chipset/bios? -

I have the same motherboard and BIOS by the looks, its a very common platform.
I got a T8100 off Ebay for $38 shipped but havent installed it yet. Its only about 20% slower than a T9300 but if spending a lot Id have just bought a new i3/i5 laptop as they are peanuts new and a much faster and more frugal processor.
Still I didnt need that much speed, main reason for upgrade was a bit snappier and more battery life and less heat, due to 45nm vs 65nm and speedstep being enabled unlike on the celeron (T1600).
SSD sounds like a great upgrade though if I can find a bargain on ebay. -
Sounds like a good deal!
I can definitely recommend upgrading from the T1600. The T3400 runs cooler and faster, even though it has mostly the same specs as the old cpu. My WEI went from 4,6 to 5,4 on both cpu & ram. Boot time from 65 seconds to 50With an SSD I tried, it booted in 20 seconds with the old cpu! I'd bet the battery would last longer too, if I had one.
There's not too much on the f.65 bios in the "gl40..." thread, but enough indications to make me think the chipset will run 800mhz and possibly 8gb ram.
I currently have a modified F.65 bios which gives access to the advanced options, and the only options listed for fsb are "667mhz" and "auto". Let's hope it switches to 800mhz automatically... -
Almost sure from reading around that GL40 takes 800fsb (and from compatible CPU list in Intel GL40 express spec sheet below) and should be automatic (unless HP have nobbled the BIOS) but it also says below that max ram is 4gb.

Which CPU? CQ60-210TU upgrade
