This is my first laptop purchase. I have my mind set on the HP DV6000 notebook. From what i have researched this is a awesome notebook. I like everything about it. I just now need to narrow down which prebuilt dv6000 model i want and from where to buy . It needs to have a fast processor that is one thing i want. I have found this HP DV6227CL which is sold at walmart for $800. How do the specs look on this model? Is it a cheaper version that is just sold at wal-mart? How does the AMD Turion X2 compare to the Core 2 Duo's? Im just looking for a hp dv6000 model that is fast with good specs under 900?

    THANKS!

That model doesnt show up on the walmart site. The X2 and C2D are both good CPUs but the C2D is just a better and faster CPU. Cant really see the specs to tell about anything else.

the specs here show a decent laptop, maybe shud upgrade RAM to 2GB to run vista better

Graphics arent the best around, theyre not really good for games especially modern ones but its a better GPU than the Intel GMA

it will be fast and good for what you want. tho if ur gonna do extreme photo editing with large sized pics then u might need a faster CPU but definitely wud need more RAM.

Well, to be honest the DV6000Z(TurionX2) VS DV6000T(Core2Duo) has very little to no different on daily use. You can have a faster CPU, but depends on if you really need it or not. Most stuff like video editing and gaming are depended on the video card. Also Price is a factor too. The cost for a core 2 duo is relatively more than the TurionX2 for higher end CPUs, almost a $200 difference. If your going to want to save money get the TurionX2. Simply because the DV6000z's intergrated video card(Geforce 6150) is by far better than the DV6000T's intergrated video card (Intel GMA950). Then there is the factor of wanting a faster video card, the DV6000T offer a faster video card, which is the geforce 7400. While the DV6000z offers the Geforce 7200, in which case the number maybe different the performance difference are minimal. Cost wise if you want good performance with a good price get the DV6000z. If you want Top performance on the DV6000 series, then get the DV6000T, but the price will be higher (of course depending on configuration).

My friend has a DV6000T with T5200 CPU and it drains pretty fast, Same thing with my TurionX2, so i couldn't really say much on the difference of battery life.

so you gotta ask yourself, do i want to pay more for performance i dont need or should i pay a little more for something I want?

Like how i word that question? :)

also to note: with the money you save on the Dv6000z compared to the DV6000T you can use that extra savings to upgrade on other components such as the memory, hard drive (i.e. 7200RPM HD), upgrades on the video card, and battery.

I have a 10MP camera, shoot 20MB RAW images, develop them into 40MB .tif images and process them in GIMP everyday and am very happy with 1GB, I will upgrade someday, but I would not pay for the second GB of memory now if you are trying to cut down on the initial purchase price.

I like my intel C2D, but would imagine something similar would be just as good in normal daily use.

I would stongly suggest a discrete video card to help bear the graphics burden of Vista, but I have not experienced an integrated machine first hand. They are probably fine for most things.

Good, but I'd spend a little more on the dv6255us. Mostly for the 2GB RAM (Vista is a serious memory hog) but the faster CPU (TL56 vs. TL50) and webcam are nice too. RAM is easy to upgrade later if money is tight though.

Your right, i forgot. i keep thinking about video editing as in 3d graphics creating, not editing your digital videos.

i have the SE model of the one your looking at circuit city

photoshop, acid, vegas, etc all run well for me with 1G and tweaks to vista's interface,(w/ 2G you probably won't have to tweak too much or at all)

i currently have 37 tabs open on my browser and it's been open for a couple of days with no issues in performance.

If you're on a budget, and from what you've described you'll be doing, i think it will be sufficient.

You can get more ram later if you feel it's inadequate and vista also has the readyboost feature if you need a little more performance.
