Is there an HP model that offers what I'm looking for below? The website isn't very clear on some things:

    Core i5 430 or 520
    14" screen
    backlit keyboard
    optical drive
    Intel graphics ok

small size, 5 lbs or so
    5/6 hours battery life

thanks in advance! So many choices!

The dv4i is your only choice in the HP line if I recall. The only thing it lacks (unless someone can correct me here) is the dv4i does not have a backlit and the battery life is not quite up at the 5 hour range. Otherwise it has options for a Core i5. Hope that helps.

The HP dv4i would be the most appropriate choice. The business-grade HP Elitebook 8440p would also be close, with a NightLight instead of a backlit keyboard, but it is heavier and more expensive.

yeah, that's the one I priced. The price was perfect at $870 or so, but I don't think the keyboard is backlit.

If you must have a backlit keyboard, the Dell Studio 14 (heresy on the HP forums :p ) is a good alternative, although it is (at least currently) priced a fair bit higher than the HP dv4i.

    Midnight,

I've looked at the Studio 14z, but Dell hasn't updated it with the newer processors. Who knows why....
