    Hi, everyone.

If I can get the HP CompacX1000, HP ZT3000, HP NX7010, or the NC6000 configured identically, what's the difference between them? I know the last two are business models -- but what's the advantage or disadvantage of that?

    Thanks a lot!

well, if what you say is true and the specs are really all exactly the same, it's time to start looking at dimensions, weight and design of a notebook. I'm not so sure you've checked all the fine print on these notebook configs though, usually business notebooks skimp on the graphics processor since that's not needed by a mobile professional, but they'll have bette battery life and a lighter weight.

    Hi Rob,

If the units have been configured identically, there would only be a few small differences.

    1. The Compaq X1000, HP ZT3000 & HP NX7010 will just have a different paint job. These are all the same computer slightly modified for each product catagory (Compaq Consumer, HP Consumer & HP Business).

    2. The 3 above units will have a 15.4" 16:9 ratio (or was that 16:10)Widescreen LCD, while the NC6000 will have a 14.1" 4:3 ratio LCD.

    3. The 3 above units will have the ATI 9200 video controller, while the NC6000 will have an ATI 9600 video controller.

    4. The NC6000 has a MultiBay that allows for the optical drive to be swapped out for other drive types and also for an additional battery, while the 3 systems above can't

    5. The NC6000 is also an overall smaller and lighter system then the 3 above.

Generally, those are the only main differences between similarly configured systems.

And the keyboard and speakers will be different. The keyboard on the nx7010 is excellent. And the speakers are pretty good too. Obviously not as good as desktop speakers though.

    HP nx7010 DU259A: Pentium-M 1.6GHz, 2x256MB RAM, 60GB 7200RPM HDD, 64MB Radeon 9200, 15.4" WXGA, XP Pro.

I've used the Compaq Evo N620c notebooks (NC6000 replaced this model) and the keyboard is also as good as the NX7010. And yes, the speakers are also different between an NC6000 and the other 3 notebooks. I found that having the speakers on top of the unit rather than on the front edge provided much better sound (had a Compaq Evo N800c with the speaker in the front, didn't sound that good).
