I am looking for a new laptop, this would be my first laptop... and I am interested in these two... I am also interested in any suggestions you may have... I am from Canada and cannot customize the laptop on the HP site, nor can I purchase it through costco because I don't have a membership or leave near enough to one. Well these are the ones I am interested in:

Looking for inputDoes anyone acually have either of these and how do you find it? I just realized the second one went down $100
Thanks in advance, just wondering which you would purchase...
By the way, it would be used for univerity schoolwork, watching movies occasionally, playing the sims 2, listening to music, emai, msn messenger etc.

I don't know why Canadians get screwed by HP like this. If they can do customized notebooks throughout the U.S. it seems that doing them throughout North America shouldn't be that difficult -- unless Canada has more stringent import regulations from China or something.
Anyway, in answer to your question, if you rarely would need to carry or travel with the machine, then the dv9000z might be a good choice. But 17" notebooks aren't very portable, so if it's a machine you would be travelling with or carrying with you to class or the library, then I would DEFINITELY go with the dv6000t. Also, the dv6000t using Core Duo and integrated Intel graphics should get much better battery life than the dv9000z
There are two downsides in going with that dv6000t model, though. First it's a 32-bit only machine, which right now isn't a big deal, but several years from now when 64-bit software is more plentiful you won't be able to make use of enhanced performance 64-bit software. Also, that machine uses a GMA950 graphics core, which will limit your gaming abilities, especially in the future as games with higher requirements come out.
Personally, I think a more portable notebook is really useful in college though. I got a dv2000t and have found myself taking it with me everywhere, which I hadn't planned on when I got it.
So, despite those two (fairly minor) problems, I would probably go with the dv6000t.
Hope that helps.
(Also, to anyone else trying to help, ou will need a Canadian postal code to access the links above: I used V5T 1Y9 out of Vancouver and the links came up.) -
Thanks!
I think that I am leaning toward the DV6000... Just in case I do need to bring it to class, and it's not that much smaller than the DV9000 but it is a fair bit heavier... The only games that I would play is the sims series... not sure how the laptop would run future sims games, but its should be okay... ANyone else have input?
I still feel sorta undecided tho -
One has an AMD processor and one has an Intel processor... which one would be better?
Which HP would you buy?
