What version of the Realtek audio driver does HP use with laptops that come with Vista SP1 preinstalled? The latest one available on the HP Website for the dv6500t is 6.0.1.5494 A. I was wondering if the driver they use with SP1 is more current.

I can confirm the latest Realtek driver on my DV9774ca works fine. I downloaded it the other day version 6.0.1.5574. I also installed SP1. This laptop is one month old now. If any of that helps.

My question is directed to people who recently received their HP laptops with Vista SP1 preinstalled. I would like to know what version of the Realtek audio driver HP put on their systems. Actually it would be interesting to know the versions of all the drivers that HP uses with systems that have SP1 preinstalled. This way we would know if the latest HP SP1-compatible versions are available on the HP website. I don’t want to use generic versions from the OEM websites.

Thanks for the information anderde. It tells me the Realtek driver on the HP website is the one that HP currently uses with Vista SP1. I tried to install that driver a couple of weeks ago and it didn't go well. I had to use system restore to undo it. My current Realtek driver is 6.0.1.5384. I tried to update to 6.0.1.5494 with SP37743. I followed the preferred 'install now' instructions. The first thing it did was uninstall my current driver. Then a system reboot. When the system restarted a new driver was installed. I checked the driver in Device Manager and it had a 2006 date and a lower number than the driver it replaced.

Has anybody successfully updated their Realtek audio driver to 6.0.1.5494 with SP37743? Have you checked the driver version in Device Manager after the upgrade to verify it is 6.0.1.5494?

The ones from the chipset manufacturers' websites are usually more up to date, and are just as stable as the ones, as those provided on HP's page.

I just received my dv9700t about 10 days ago. It did not come with SP1 pre-loaded, but I have since installed SP1 through Windows Update when it was presented to me. The current drivers that I have installed for the Realtek High Definition Audio is 6.0.1.5470 dated 8/22/2007. They have not been updated by me since receiving the laptop, and everything has been running perfectly fine.
