    ok, this is the deal.

I finally located a 64-bit Vista Ultimate Recovery DVD yesterday for my DV9000T and ordered it, but today I find apparently the same 64-bit Vista Ultimate Recovery DVD with a different part number. I called HP and got shuffled around for about an hour, then eventually sent to an answering machine which told me to call back on Monday then promptly hungup on me. I cannot find either on partsurfer. Can anybody tell me the difference? Probably some of you guys work for HP. Somebody, help me out, please? This is very confusing.

I ordered 443702-001 but I'm thinking I should have ordered 444387-001 I didn't want the driver & applications DVD. OMG, what did I order?

    thanks in advance ...

Why not just make your own using the included utility?

I've searched around. One of those is for dv9200t systems and one is for dv9200z systems, but the way the website is set up I can't figure out which is which.

    Sorry.

I can't make my own, mine came with 32-bit Home Premium not Ultimate :D :D :D
All the 64-bit Recovery DVD's are Ultimate

    I can't use the "z" since I don't have an AMD Processor.

I think I'm confused about the same thing as mbmalone, maybe not. Both of those links seem to go to identical information.

What is the difference between the above links and if you were to select the "System Recovery DVD w/Windows Vista Ultimate +$19.00" when ordering a new notebook from HP?

I noticed there is a slight price difference and the links above say you're ordering a "CD"... not "DVD"?

Why the price difference? Are they the same? I seem to use quotation marks a lot, it's probably annoying to someone, more on that later. Peace.

mbmalone -- Best upgrade price I've seen. Gotta love HP's wonderful security. Microsoft must be thrilled. :)

eternal -- I'm not sure if mbmalone figured out which was which or not. One is for Intel systems, the other for AMD, but nothing on the page I saw indicated which is which.

It's the exact same thing you'd get if you purchased it with the system... although the price is different for no good reason. The CD reference is simply incorrect.

You really don't need either of these. A recovery partition is included on the hard drive, and a utility come with the machione to make your own disc.

How does this sound for a plan?

Don't buy the Recovery DVD, burn a backup ASAP, then would I be able to reformat the hard drive (erasing the recovery partition to utilize the entire drive capacity) and reinstall the system from my backup?

I thought that maybe if you ordered the Recovery DVD then HP would NOT steal approximately 12GB of your hard drive for their recovery partition. I'd happily pay $19 or whatever to avoid the aforementioned procedure, time is money!

Some err.. guy with an Indian looking name, responded in an Hp Business forum that I needed the 443702-001 which is the one I ordered. That's some sweat off my brow. She still couldn't explain the difference? I asked about one being for "z" AMD based systems and the other for "t" or Intel based systems. Nobody really seems to know what's going on?

    I hope I didn't waste my last $20 bucks. :D
Probably get stuck in an endless reboot loop caused by a mouse cursor exploit and wishing i had my $20 bucks back for a pizza while I fix this crappy OS.

I hope this doesn't ruin my bad reputation.

This is going to be very interesting to know if it works out!

Coz I've been pissed that not everyone with a 64-bit machine could get the 64-bit version of vista.

    Yea, me freakin too !!!

I've got a Core 2 Duo and a 32-bit only Genuine Windows Advantage DVD. Buy a Porshe and put regular unleaded gas in it, why don't ya! Luckily, my HP key worked fine on a retail 64-bit Vista but it still didn't give me the real deal Ultimate Experience. :D :D :D
