For the v2000z, which would be better? Buy the 12cell battery pack or get the 6cell pack that comes with the laptop?

I like the 12cell. I get tons more battery life. I have the v4000t and I would say that it has doubled the battery life. However it's only drawback is that it sticks out around 1 in. This raises up your laptop but I have not had a problem with it. I also think this proping up of the laptop lets cooler air flow through. The 12 cell also weighs more.

It's a matter of preference. I too like the 12 cell for the extended battery life and the slight slant it gives you when typing... however, I'm plugged in 90% of the time. I don't know if I'd like carrying the extra weight if I were a student on the go all the time.

Here's another vote for the 12 cell.
When my dv1000t is sitting on my desk, the 12 cell props up the laptop for better airflow. When I'm traveling, the extra weight is hardly noticable. What *is* noticable is the battery life!
When I first received the laptop, I had read that you should charge the battery fully the first time, and then leave the computer on until the battery fully discharges.
It took over seven and a half hours for me to discharge the 12 cell battery fully, and this was with screen on full brighness (well, I guess the computer settings dim it somewhat), wifi turned on, and pretty heavy usage. I was loading software, burning CD's, surfing the web and downloading programs. -
I vote for 6 cell. 3 hours are enough for me. I don't expect 4 hours work without a AC plugin.
6 cell gives me a flat & light book. -
I go for the 6 cell simply because I do not like how the 12 cell sticks out from the bottom of the computer, like the guy above said, it remains flat.
I just wish HP and Compaq would get a 9 cell like dell. I think thats the happy median. 3-3.5 hours is just fine in a battery. I get about 2 mayybe 2.5 with my 6 cell. -
I bought the 12 cell for my personal v5000z, and have a 6 cell for my work nc6220.
12 cell:
Pros:
- it gives a longer time to work and so don't have to go looking for an outlet all the time.
- it sticks out about 1.5" and gives a slant to the notebook. It is very convenient to type on, similar to the MS ergonomic keyboards.
- because it sticks out, it allows space right under the hottest portion of the notebook and allows it to cool faster.
cons:
- it is about 2/3 or 3/4 of the width of the notebook i.e. not the full width of the notebook; so if you try to use the notebook on your lap (like a "laptop", you have to adjust your legs else it will wobble. It does not wobble on a desk or other flat surface.
- it is heavy. Still, I love my notebook and don't mind lugging it around for personal travel.
6 cell:
pros:
- have it in my work notebook. light, easy to carry around. It is especially helpful for my frequent travel, and will not dent my jacket at the shoulders because of its weight.
- don't think it is a "pro" but just something to mention - it makes the notebook lay flat
cons:
- short battery life. Have to play musical chairs for electrical outlets.
To summarize, choose the battery for the target usage. Better yet, buy one of both. There is really no right or wrong answer.

How come they don't make a 12 cell battery for the dv8000 series??? I really want one.
Can anyone recommend a good external battery that will run 3+ hours? -
-
I dont think its possible since it would be pretty huge then. Whats your battery life now?
Which battery is better?
