I've decided to purchase a dv9000t tomorrow from the HP website. I've played with the dv9000t and I really like it it.
I'm configuring the order and I'm stuck on which display to go for, it's between the BrightView Widescreen with 1680x1050 resolution or the Ultra BrightView Widescreen with 1440x900 resolution. I'm torn because I would love the higher resolution display but I'm also partial to beautiful bright displays. I don't know how much brighter the "ultra" brightview display is over the regular brightview version. Any educated guesses?

the Ultra BV will use quite a bit more power if that helps you decide. That is because it has two backlights. The "standard" BV display is VERY bright indoors. If you will be using it on battery power I would stick with the standard BV.

I am unsure if it helps but it seems to me that the UBV display might be somewhat OK in the shade outdoors. But that is a huge maybe...

Personally I find the WSXGA+ resolution perfect for the 17" display.

Then again you might be able to get a sun tan from the UBV display.

I owned the WSXGA+ screen first and returned it for the Ultra Brightview. I had trouble seeing text (I do a lot of writing) with the dimmer backlight and the smaller fonts on the WSXGA. After 2 two months with the UBV I love it. Its bright screen really makes things jump out and it overcomes just about any level of external glare. It also reduces the shadowng affect you see on these larger screens. At the end of the day, it really comes down to personal preference. I have read praises and criticismns from people for both type of screens.

Just out of curiosity have you taken your system and used it outside? We still need to add another system here and I was thinking it might be nice to have something with a few more gadgets like the dv9000s come with...but it would need to be somewhat useable outside, under shade of course not in direct sunlight.

    :)

Yes, I use mine outside on the patio a good bit. The UBV screen does a good job overcoming the glare. I'll see if I can shoot some photos of the screen in those conditions and post them tomorrow.
