I'm strongly considering returning my new dell d820 and buying a dv2000t.
I've been to the local Costco and saw that they had preconfigured models, but not which ones. (Also, my Costco is brand new and doesn't have everything in stock yet). Does anyone know which preconfigured C2D models they carry?
It'll help me decide whether to go to the store tomorrow (or 20 miles North to a different Costco) or configure one myself online. I assume the preconfigured's have some price savings.

Well for starters what are you going to do with it? I think the D820 is more solid.

Don't get me started.
As to the "solid" d820, in the 5 days I've had it, it has:
1) needed the icky Samsung screen replaced with the LG Phillips which is supposed to the best screen available for that model.
2) the LG has dark corners like soot has collected there, is not bright, grainy, whites are grey, and has extreme light leakage to the point where there is no black at all - all that and still far better than the Samsung screen but not half the quality of my 4 year old Toshiba.
3) The down arrow I use a lot is squeaky already
4) The touchpad which I use 80% of the time, only registers 3 out of every 4 clicks even when set to max sensitivity so I am constantly tap tap tapping the darn thing to get it to work. I don't think a replacement touchpad would fix it.
5) The speakers are the worst I've ever heard on a laptop
6) The computer has crashed hard once in a video sort of way - a moving stripe-y screen which may mean an impending video card replacement.
It definitely feels well built - but I'm not so sure it's keep-able for me. If I was the average business user who used a mouse, it'd probably be okay.
As to what I use it for, 80% web surfing, 20% Photoshop/Illustrator. Maybe a movie twice a year. It doesn't leave the house but occasionaly goes up and down the stairs. 80% touchpad use, 20% Intuos tablet. I've looked at the models in the stores - went to Circuit City, CompUSA, Best Buy and Office Depot yesterday - and the screens I liked the best were the Sony VGN-FE770 and the HP dv2000t line. I was suprised to not be impressed with any of the Sony VGN-SX screens, even the "premium" ones. The Sony FE screen won, being slightly better than the dv6000 in screen quality, but if I'm getting a low res screen instead of the UXGA I have now, I might as well go 14" and be more portable. The 14" had the same resolution but not the pixelization the 15" have. Maybe people get used to that, but I've never had a laptop that isn't UXGA. I actually think maybe it's better to go 14" WXGA because then I don't constantly have to be pressing Ctrl+ to make the text bigger in Firefox, and if I want more resolution, I'll plug into the external.
Wish it had DVI, but I don't wish it enough to buy an ASUS with DVI sight unseen. I'm done with ordering something I haven't seen in a store - once was enough for this round. The 15" WXGA (all models), if you look closely, has a grid that the pixels fit into and I find it distracting. The 2000t is just fine. The 2000t has a responsive touchpad since I don't tend to have sweaty fingers, the speakers were decent, the screen has decent whites, and the $500 I save over the d820 should let me get a good external monitor.
I just wondered if anyone knew which 2000t's Costco carried in the store, because if they are all pretty low specs, I'll probably go ahead and custom order one.
Which dv2000t Pre-configured models at Costco?
