Can anyone tell me if 3.0Gb/s is supported by the controller (82801GBM) in the DV5000t? I am trying to purchase a new hard drive. I have a ST910021AS in there now, which is 1.5Gb/s. I would like to get a 3.0Gb/s drive if it will work in my machine.
Thanks

The HP DV5000t has an ICH7-M Southbridge - No, it doesn't support SATA2 (3.0Gb/s), only SATA1 (1.5Gb/s).
You can buy any SATA2 HDD if you want to, as they are backward compatible with/to SATA1, and the drive will operate in SATA1 mode. -
Thank you for the super fast reply!
Will it still operate at 7200 RPMs? -
Hehe..No problem. Was just passing by the HP Forum.
EDIT: YES. 7200RPM HDDs will have an actual spindle speed of 7200RPM. (Thats more of a HDD feature) -

Any other queries ? BTW, if not bought an HDD already, you can check out this thread.
