I have not had any experience with either of these machines but the dv5000z replaced the zv6000 which I do have. It has a very nice screen and looks very good in my opinion with the brightview option. As far as the difference between the dv5000 and the v5000 I would think there would not be any difference as they are essentially the same. The only difference is in the external looks of the laptop. The screens should be identical.

Ok. I did not have much time to compare the screens. For the most part they seem the same. WHat I could tell from the limited time I had was the screen wobbles much, much more on the V5000. Other differences...the latch on the dv5000 is the regular slide to the right. The V5000 is the push latch. Fingure prints do show up on the shiny part of the dv5000 keyboard. V5000 does not have that. Shape is a little different. Of course with dv5000 you get the dvd button and quick play. The screen on the V5000 is thicker on the back. That might make it protect the screen better. On the dv5000 the thum pad has that scroll surface which is really nice. From what I can remember the V5000 has a little bigger thumpad. But not sure on that. Looks the dv5000 wins but the V5000 looks nice (albeit more conservative) too.

There are other minor different details...but if you can spend it I would go for the dv5000 just because the screen wobble is much less...

Either way they are both great laptops. Enjoy!

segadc - Just how bad is the screen wobble on the V5000? Is it only when you are moving it, or is it like so bad that it wobbles when you are typing on a flat surface? The V5000 is priced really attractively right now, so I'm taking a harder look at it.

Even though it wobbles more, when typing (even hard) it will not wobble. So your good to go! :)
