I've narrowed my laptop choices to these two laptops. Which one is better for gaming?

    HP Compaq 8510w: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/e...5-321838-3329741-3369263-3355681-3453374.html
    HP Compaq 8510p: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/e...5-321838-3329741-3355678-3355680-3544130.html

The major differences between the two include the processor and graphics card. The "w" comes with a Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz and NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M while the "p" comes with a Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz and ATI Mobility Radeon X2600.

Which one will be better for gaming?

The 8510w is the better machine. Games benifit more from a 20% faster video card than they do a 20% faster processor.

8510w will indeed be better for gaming, but also costs more (in general!). I guess it's up to you if you want to spend the extra money.

Like many have already mentioned the "w" is the way to go. The 2.0Ghz dual core CPU is more than adequate to run the latest games at high settings. An additional 0.4GHz barely makes any difference. The GPU is much more important especially when you buy a laptop since they tend to be weak. So go for the best GPU possible.
