Which one has the better screen and runs cooler?

The hp is a lot cheaper. Can you upgrade the hard drive easily on the hp?

I'm not sure if the Sony runs any cooler, but HP's are notoriously on the warm side, to say the least. I can't comment on the screen either.

The hard drive is very easy to replace. Easier than a desktop, IMO.

I currently own an hp dv2500t and a Sony Vaio FZ150E. I can say for sure that the Vaio has the better screen. Colors are great on both, but the Vaio is a notch brighter and crisper.

With integrated graphics (GMA X3100), both laptops run cool. The hp may be ever so slightly warmer under the left palmrest.

Good luck deciding. I have decided to give up the Vaio, but it was a hard choice.

Do you want to consider a dell inspiron 1520 which is a lot cheaper than both HP and vaio and has better configuration options.

Sony Vaio FZ is the thinnest of all and has the best build quality. Dell has the best configuration. Hp is also cool looking. I had a hp dv6000t and a sony vaio FZ-190 (returned them because of high pitch noise issues). Sony runs a lot quieter than HP and has a better display then hp/dell.

And sony is the most expensive.

Sony FZ may be expensive, but gives you the best bang for your buck.
Superior build quality, breathtaking display, sexy looks and light weight.

Dell 1520 has the best specs of the three, but it seems to be having problems with its display. People are complaining of graininess. HP's main problems are the heat produced and the glossy chassis that attracts fingerprints.

However, Sony support and service are not that good compared to HP or Dell.

best bang for buck? sorry but sony are notoriously well known for hiking prices just for the brand name.

take any machine by HP dell toshiba Acer etc and compare spec for spec with Sony and the sony will usually cost more. they are good machines but not really worth what you spend on them

so if u are willing to pay a premium for similar or less specs and if u wanna trade screen quality for more money than the screen is worth then go for Sony.

but real bang for buck? Dell and HP are better. HP have issues with warmth, it aint that bad though and well you have been told about Dell. I would probably wait til the Dell issues are fixed and get one of them, best specs for the best price.

Yes, buying a Sony is paying a premium for the brand name.

Better to buy a HP or Dell and use it for 2 years after which you throw it away and buy a new one.

HP is definetely a better deal, Sony is more of a designer computer brand and makes you pay more for the name. However Sony has better build quality and has the best screens, but a computer really only lasts 2-3 years before you need to upgrade or buy another.

Sony does NOT have better build quality. I had a Sony FS, which was a fantastic notebook. I now have the FE series, and let me tell you, it's nothing special. For example, consider the build quality - the paint on the power button, volume buttons, and S1 & S2 keys has already come off, and the right touchpad button has been screwed up since I got the unit. Even so, I ordered a new FS through my employer in July, and when it arrived, the screen had 2 dead pixels! I sent that thing back, and Sony deducted $200 for no reason! I never did get that money back.

I like Sony, but as others have pointed out, you are paying for the name. The best computer I've had during the last 5 years was a Toshiba.

does the sony really have a better screen? i was in best buy yesterday, and it seemed like the sony eco screens were actually dimmer than (or the same as) the hp dv2660. and as for crispness, they're the same resolution, but the sony has a bigger screen than the dv2500, so doesn't that mean the hp should be crisper??
