So which one? It needs to be brighter than this junky DELL LATITUDE D800 i'm on!
-
Also if i get GeForce Go 7150M vid car i can't upgrade after?
-
what are you going to be using it for?
-
nope, donte think u can upgrade your video card... at least as far as i could tell from talking mine apart.
-
people will say the original is bright enough and to choose the wider resolution, but i got the ultra bright screen and I LOVE IT!
-
It will be used for pics/movies/games/surfing/shopping
I'm feeling either the higher res or the ultra bright is that extra $$$$ worth ??
Dedicated vid card is a must right away then. -
I'd go with this one.

well... you see which one i have and i must say...i love it as well.
and watching a blue ray movie is unreal.
dedicated video card is a must!!!
and these 8600m gs's cant run call of duty 4 at high anything. picture looks spectacular if your not moving or shooting though. lol, but what good is that.
alhough i did get a decent setting running at 1680x1200.
if i wasnt such a res freak, i would go with the ultra as well -
17.0" WXGA+ High-Definition Ultra HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1440 x 900) for 1000%!!!!

"17.0" WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050)", no doubt about it.
The higher resolution makes a lot bigger difference than brightness. Also, the brighter display will just cause more eye strain. Don't bother with it. -
I would go with the higher resolution as well. The screen already looks amazing on that laptop, so why not have a better resolution as well. I owned a 9500t with the 1440x900 resolution and the icons were too big for me. I ended up returning it before the 2 weeks was up and got my money back. The laptop is great, but until they come out with the ultra-brightview with a higher resolution I would definitely say to go with the 1680x1050.

Definitely!! The brightness on mine is perfect -
I've had both the base 1440x900 and the high res 1680x1050 from the DV9000 series just since Dec. I actually had 2 different DV9700s with 1440x900 but both had to be sent back because of other issues. The last one I ordered was a 1680x1050 res and I am absolutely loving it.
I struggled with this decision too. It's a hard one to make if you can't find a 17" laptop in town that you can see the 1680x1050 res on. You can find plenty at 1440x900. Personally, I am very glad I went with the higher res.
As you will see many people say here, it is a personal choice and after having laptops and desktop monitors with lower res screens, the extra space on the higher res is amazing and I won't ever go back. -
ill second that rtrdogs. besides... they say mine is a 260 nits screen..... how good is that?
i have a 24" Gateway hd 1920x1200 monitor for my personal computer and the screen is super bright!! i have to turn down the brightness because it starts to hurt my eyes, but then i look at it for almost 14 hours a day...so that might have something to do with it... -
Watch out for the 1680 x 1050 resolution. It may make text and icons too small for you to see comfortably.
-
I think that depends on the person. I would actually prefer 1920x1200 on the dv9700t.
-
only 335.00 bucks for that upgraded screen....
-
If it helps, here are some 1680x1050 screens someone else asked me to take in another thread:

I ended up getting a dv9720 for $700 at CC but i'm having 2nd thoughts as the graphics are crap...I can't get pics and video or even IE not looking soft or a tad fuzzy..maybe it was the awfully high res i was using on my lattitude but this onboard 7150 vid card or a slow refresh rate of the LCD dunno! Other than that i like it and i got vista running about as fast as my xp pro lattitude.
Which screen to select on 9700?
