I'm thinking about buy a dv9500t laptop, and I'm wondering which service plan i should get. I've never owned an HP computer, so I dont know much about the quality of their computers. Also, I'm going to college this year, so I'm trying to keep cost down, but I will be depending on this computer a lot.

are you planning to buy it online or through CompUSA, CircuitCity, Costco or other stores?

CompUSA has an excellent hardware service plan of 2 or 4 yrs which covers 1 time screen replacement and 1 time battery replacement. You can change your battery just before your service plan expires.
I got the 2 yr plan and will use it well :D

I had bought a Toshiba laptop from CircuitCity previously and opted for their 4 yr hardware service plan. They were pretty good too.

HP direct service sucks big time and a lot of users on this forum had bad experiences. This does not mean HP direct service is bad 100%.

Not sure about the service plan from Costco. All I know is that you can return your laptop in 6 months for full refund if you don't like it.

If you are buying it from HP (such as customized), do NOT buy the plans that they show as options. All of these are the 'All-In-One' plans which cover 3 peripherals. Instead, order the plan separate as an express repair plan. It will save you $100 - the only thing you lose is the coverage of the peripherals. Here is the plan I would recommend.

What about the upgrade to next day on site? If I remember right it wasn't that much...maybe $75 on top of the extra for the 3 year. Sounds like a good idea, but haven't actually -ever- had to call service for repair on anything (and those are dells) but I've never owned an HP so I'm a little more skeptical.
