Which speakers does my notebook support?

I got the HP dv9207us which is here: http://www.compusa.com/products/pro...&Nty=1&D=dv9207us&Ntk=All&product_code=344794

I'm wondering what kind of speakers I can use with this laptop. I would like to get the Klipsch promedia 2.1 speakers but I first wanted to ask if my machine can support them. If not, what speakers do work?

Kinda annoyed that the speaker plug is in the front of the notebook. =(

 

Ya, 2.1 should work with your laptop. Alternatively, you can get some portable USB speakers.

 

Thanks for the response. I got another question. Would 5.1 speakers work on this? Would they sound bad? I'm trying to figure out what the limitations of the soundcard are.

Yea, 5.1 works. It utilizes the "mic" port.

 

Thanks! How does it sound though? I thought both 2.1 and 5.1 had to be connected through the SPDIF port.. what is that used for?
