    Ya, 2.1 should work with your laptop. Alternatively, you can get some portable USB speakers.

    Thanks for the response. I got another question. Would 5.1 speakers work on this? Would they sound bad? I'm trying to figure out what the limitations of the soundcard are.

    Yea, 5.1 works. It utilizes the "mic" port.

    Thanks! How does it sound though? I thought both 2.1 and 5.1 had to be connected through the SPDIF port.. what is that used for?
