Personally, I like them both. I have the standard black/silver (dv9000t, though), and I'm always impressed by how it looks. The white ones are very impressive too, but I think it's because the zen pattern works really well on it. I have an older iBook too, and even though I like it, I think since it lacks anything other than a white scheme, it just doesn't draw appeal to it.

Both look nice and have their own strengths. The white probably doesnt attract as any fingerprints or atleast it is not as visible as the black lid. But the white finish will show dirt especially around the keyboard compared to the black keyboard after a few months of use.

Personally I prefer the Compaq V6000/V3000 lookover the dv2000/dv6000.

I have the white 6233SE, a friend has the black. We're jealous of each other. heheh.

They're both nice looking depending on your preference. The white one chose me because I got a deal on it.

Most of my computing is at home, if your a laptop musician/dj/performer, I could see why you might want to stand out with the white one.

However, people will run up to you thinking it's a new style of mac. If they're in love with MAC, you'll get jeers, if they're in love with PCs, you still get jeers, because it looks like a mac. I'm kidding.

    Most seem to like it:

It's a special edition that I think is only through Best Buy. I wanna say you can order it online through their website, though.

Did you ever get this laptop? I am interested in buying it but I am wondering about the battery life. The HP rep told me that I should expect anywhere from 6-8 hours.

I own this laptop and think it is fantastic. I can run multiple programs at the same time with no slowdown like photoshop, adobe premiere pro, windowws media player, aim and firefox. Not sure about the battery life, but i would expect closer to 4-7 hours.if you have any qeustions PM me.

The HP rep stated its listed as 8 hours so realistically to look for 6 hrs. 4.. wow that sucks for a 12 cell battery.

I bought the dv6258se - the white one with the 12-cell - and I picked it over a black unit for three reasons:

    1. I'm a racist. (I kid! I kid!)
    2. You don't see white PC notebooks that often.
    3. The keys on the keyboard are a bit more comfortable.

I actually do prefer the look of the white one over the black; the black is attractive, yes, but the white's very distinctive.

If the user isn't punishing the thing, 6 is fairly realistic (if a bit stretching it.)

I was using my to edit and render video - on the battery - and with wireless on and screen brightness at 50%, I didn't run the battery down after four hours.

For crying out loud, if I ramp the Go 6150 up to maximum performance, set the CPU to "dynamic switching" in NHC, turn the wireless on, and set the screen a couple stops below brightest, I can play Guild Wars for a solid three hours on the battery.

Realistically, I've never been able to run the battery down in regular use. It's only been at home after a long day when it's sitting next to the adaptor that I've been able to run it down: basically, when I've deliberately tried.

I have the black, but I really like the white, also. As has been mentioned, the absence of noticeable fingerprints is a real plus with the white.

    I also like the specs of the dv6258se. It's a good-looking, well-configured notebook.

what kind of performance hit do you take though if you opt for the AMD white SE dv6000? comparing, say, a TL-56 and a t5500 C2d?

I couldnt really give you a comparision to a cd2, seeing as i dont own one. The bottom line is though i doubt most users will notice a huge difference.

I couldn't tell you, but I've found mine to be PLENTY capable. Looking for a performance hit between the two would be splitting hairs.

I don't think you'll see a real-world difference in performance if the rest of the configuration is the same.

Two things to consider: (1) make sure you have 2GB RAM. (2) Make sure you have get a decent graphics card. I would rather have the AMD processor with the NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 graphics card than the Intel C2D with an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950.

    Yes! Yes! Y-E-S!

The Turion 64 X2 TL-56 is basically an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ in a notebook with better thermals. While that doesn't sound ideal, remember that the X2 3800+ isn't a bad chip and never was; it just got outclassed by Intel's desktop Core 2 Duo line. It's like saying Hershey chocolate is worse than Ghirardelli; the existence of Ghirardelli doesn't necessarily make Hershey bad, because at the end of the day, chocolate is still delicious.

I second your assertion that you'd rather have an AMD with a Go 6150 than a Core 2 Duo with a GMA 950 whole-frigging-heartedly. The Go 6150 is a remarkably capable little chip. It's not gamer hardware by any stretch of the imagination, but believe me, it works in a pinch. I was able to get Guild Wars Factions running at 1024x640 with most of the details on high and a pretty steady 30fps. And hey, it runs Doom 3 very playably. How many IGPs can claim that?
