To make a long story short, I bought a used DV1000 for a relatively good price. Needless to say there are a few things that need fixing, but sending it into HP with this thing out of warranty would probably negate any savings I made from buying it used/defective. The problem is with the internal power system. It needs a little wrestling with to get it to work. I was thinking of buying a dock to circumvent this problem which predicates on one crucial fact; it needs to be feeding its power through another port. This repair job will cost a nice penny I'm sure so perhaps going to another shop would mitigate the damage.

Hope that was cohesive enough to understand; I'm just a little bummed about getting somewhat of a lemon.

You have no recourse to get your money back? Your problem is that those notebooks cost $1000 new and any major repair is going to run several hundred dollars. You should double check with HP that it has no warranty and see about your options from the seller.
