How can this happen, so many people having problems with overheating? Did they not test it prior, or just rushed the production out?
I have hp envy 17, I found out it was refurbished version. It looked great, no scrathes.... Like new.
No proble for 2 months but now it froze all day and I get screen that the tem reached 90 degress celcius. I blowed with my mouth in the fan area and it worked ok. Today I bought canned air and I sprayed inside and rechecked temperature of my laptop.
I thought the temperatures would go down but no, they are even higher a bit.
my idle is 80 celcius and when playing games 97 max celcius
should i be worried, at least the freezing is over
I have just read theat the new generation is not heating so much, is it because of sandy bridge?

More help can be found in the HP Envy 17 Owner's Lounge.

They tried to use just one fan for both the GPU and CPU.
-
capping the CPU at ~75-85% will reduce the heat output.
-
Funny, cuz my Envy 14 I feel is really well ventilated. Better than any Mac or my last Dell.

A recommendation if your laptop tend to get very hot maybe a laptop cooler could be a good investment, I've used it since my first laptop and it's really good. -
but my laptop goes to 97 celcius, that is almost boiling point!!
will they put sandy bridge inside it it oveheats? -
No they will not. HP will use any excuse possible. They will at most replace the heat sink. Then they will say that, "It passed all our tests", but they will not tell you what tests they ran or what their criteria for passing is.
Send it in for an RMA. Let HP do their fix. If it still causes problems, call them again and get your issue escalated to a case manager. If the case manager is unable to resolve your issue, then try going even above them. Keep track of all communication and log everything you do with HP.
I've had success this way and was able to talk to a department that answers directly to HP's executives. Unfortunately, I will not be able to provide you the names of the individuals I spoke with since what I did is something that should only be done once all other methods have been exhausted. Furthermore, try searching online, and you will come across other success stories like mine and if you are willing to put in some effort and provide detailed information and prove your concern, then you may get a resolution.
And remember, BE POLITE AT ALL TIMES! Anyone at HP can look up your call logs and your case history; this includes the CEO. -
HP makes laptops like they do because they design each laptop at a particular price point. I'm sure that their consumer lines are so cheap due to their low quality control and cheap parts. If you want quality, you have to pay for it. Just look at HP's business line. They are among the best in the industry as compared to their consumer line.

Boiling Point? I'm hoping your CPU is not made of water
-
Technically it still has a boiling point

Why HP makes garbage laptops?
