Man, why are you starting so many threads?? It would be much easier for you, as well as everyone here who wants to help you if you would keep related topics in the same thread.

With that aside, I've been shopping for the same thing as you, but I decided that I'm just not going to buy an HP/Compaq until they actually start offering a good GPU. Hell, If I spend $2000 on a computer it better damn well play Doom3.

It's not that the posts are annoying, it's just that you're asking very similar questions across multiple threads. If you can keep focussed on a few, you'll find you'll get more repsonses and interaction. Thank you for your participation though. I hope you end up with a notebook that makes you happy!

Hi, I just thought I would throw my opinion into the mix. If I were you I wouldnt base your decision solely on the GPU. Even with the latest GPU laptops in general wont play games as well as any desktop. I bought the zx5000 P4 3.0HT with 128mb ATi 9600.

Needless to say my desktop is using a GF4 Ti4200 card and it will play games much smoother and at higher frame rates then this laptop. Sad huh? The games sputter a lot because of HDD access times (5400 rpm drive) and after a while of playing the GPU heats up and starts to lose performance.

I love my laptop, but after a couple months of using it I wish I would have got a thin & light with a mediocre GPU, seeing as this one was bought to play games and it wont even run them as well as I want... so basically im left with a big-lug laptop with an overkill GPU that I will never use, and low batt life to boot.

    Actually,

My zv5000z CTO (config is below) plays Doom 3 fine. 1024x768 at medium quality (even on battery, stepped down to 800MHz from 2GHz, it runs this config). Obviously, it doesn't run that config at 60fps. But to play it, even online, it doesn't NEED to run really high fps. It just needs to run it smoothly enough that you can hit what your shooting at. Sure, it's great to have the best looking textures, scenery, etc. while your playing, but in a notebook, if you want to run the HIGH end games, there is going to have to be some sacrifice, no matter what notebook you get, either in terms of battery life, heat generation (see posts on people damaging tables cuz their lappy was runnnin' too hot), or graphics quality. Do I wish my Athlon 64 3200 was paired with an FX5700? - you bet!! But if you need a laptop NOW (like I did), then you have to play with the cards that are currently dealt from the deck. If you don't really need it right now, best bet would be to wait till late in Q2 of '05 when some REALLY rockin' mobile chipsets and GFX cards hit the scene.

    Cheers,

    Stevo
