Why does HP still push HD DVD even though it's almost certain that it's a dead format?

When buying my DV6772NR I didn't realize to do more research to see what the prevailing format is most likely to be!

What bothers me even more, is the fact that HP only offers Blue Ray on the Intel powered notebooks plus the HD DVD as a 2nd option but only offers HD DVD on the AMD units.

Both only offer the same upgrade video card...

So why is the Blue Ray not an option on the AMD notebooks?

As long as you buy one, HP couldn't care less which drive you bought.

They still need to get rid of all those drives they have laying around before they can truely push the true high def media of the future... Blu-Ray! That is for the next few years until the next format to come into play...

There's a good chance that this will be the last popular physical format.

Are HD DVDs going to stop working or something? Until Universal, paramount, and dreamworks stops making hd dvds, it's not useless.

With that said, blu ray needs to get their act together. Their hardware is way too expensive. I think both formats are going to stay a niche format.

Most people who I show both too are unimpressed.

DVD may be the last popular physical format.

i worked in a video store so i saw the blu-rays and hddvds come in. fact is, their sales are low, they cost too much and the hardware does not have a significant share of the market yet. so even for the next 2 years, it's not gonna be a "must" to have a blu-ray or hddvd player.

I'm more curious with why the AMD people get HD DVD as the only HD choice.

AMD laptops are more aimed at the "budget" group. HD-DVD players cost less than BluRay players.

I spoke to someone at HP yesterday. They are now pushing BRD's.
With comments such as; " Costs of the Movies are now equal or close to the HD DVD prices, 3 of the large movie companies have anounced that they will no longer be publishing in HD DVD format but now blueray.
So looks to me as of 2/13/08 HP is now pushing Blueray over HD.

I don't know who died and made Blu-Ray king, but I'd say this format war is long from over, just like the standards fight involving HD picture resolutions. HD home theatre equipment has been around for several years, and is gainly popularity, but until the industry gets its act together and produces cost effective equipment using universal standards, the HD home theatre market will remain a crapshoot. And as far as manufacturers are concerned, they couldn't care less, they just wanna sell crap, who cares what standards it supports. In fact, it seems the industry is pushing HDCP, when I can't imagine why anyone would want it on their equipment.
