my dv6700 has it and i use it i dont know how many times with my SDTV. Ofcourse there is HDMI, but for SDTVs without HDMI, s-video was a good solution. Why did hp stop putting it on the notebooks?

I guess many LCD TV's are putting VGAs, HDMIs, DVIs as standards...plus a lot of people connect their laptops to projectors anyway, which usually have VGAs or DVIs as connections.

It just makes business sense to get rid of S-Video from notebooks. A lot of notebooks are starting to omit 56k modems now or are making them an option. Things that are becoming obsolete are not worth keeping around because a multitude of consumers no longer use it.

I know it sucks, but technology does progress and the only way to do so is get rid of all the old tech. HDMI or DisplayPort is the future with streaming audio. All you need is 1 cable for both video and audio.
