I was looking at a 17" (9030?) and a 15.4" HP in a store today side by side to determine once and for all if I want the bigger screen, and the 15.4" Brightview was noticeably brighter than the 17" Brightview.

The 17" was turned all the way up.

    Can anyone explain why?

The LCD was probably made by another comparny, and the 17" LCD could of been skimped out due to costs.

Gimmicky language like "BrightView" or whatever glossy terms a company may use does not necessarily mean what it is. Every brand uses different LCD manufacturers for their notebook LCDs, whether it be LG, Samsung, NEC, etc. so every notebook is usually different in brightness.
