I bought a toshiba, dual core pentium T3400, 2.16ghz, 3gb ram, 250gb HD...and it was lightning fast when surfing the web...but returned it because i got a killer deal on an HP DV5, core 2 duo, T5800, 2.0 ghz, 4gb ram, 250gb HD...

I was told by the salesperson, and a friend, that the new hp should be slightly faster than the exchanged toshiba. However, i noticed that the toshibsa was significantley faster than this one. I visited the same websites, and where the toshiba took 1 second to load a certain page, the new hp takes 3 seconds. Is this because of the 2.0 vs 2.16 ghz difference? bloatware? Any info? thank you

My guess would be because of the downgrade in processor speed. It could also be bloatware. Of course, it could be a combination of the two. Try uninstalling the bloatware and see if that helps.

    Hope this helps!

I'd say bloatware. Especially if your noticing the slowdown while browsing as HP usually install about 3 or 4 browser toolbars which significantly slow down IE.

If you're talking about your internet browser and it is IE, well time to switch to Opera. :D If you're talking about Windows in general, try a 64-bit version of Vista or Windows 7. HP preinstalls the 32-bit edition of Home Premium, which not only is slower than its 64-bit sibling but also cannot use all 4GB of RAM (it will use about 3.2).

I highly doubt 160MHz will make that much of a difference. I'm an overclocker, and know how much performance per MHz a Core chip has. Only if the difference is 500MHz or more will you feel a real difference in speed.
