Hi,
So i just got my new dv7 today, yayy!!
So far soo good, but after installing the bios update and ati drivers i tested and got very low framerates.
I have i5 2510 ati 6770m. With furmark it tested like 8fps and with the 3dmark one it was even worse. Im a total newb to all this, but i got this card because it was meant to be fast, granted i havent tried any games on it yet, but what am i doing wrong? The demo on the 3dmark while it was testing was all choppy.
I also noted on the 3dmark one that after testing it couldnt "find my processor" and it didnt like the 6770 driver.
Thanks

when you right click your desktop and click "configure switchable graphics" does it pull up a setting that lets you switch between "high performance" and "power saving" via clicking buttons, or does it show a list of programs that have these settings?
-
It has where you can change between high performance and power saving. And it has the intel card listed as the "current active graphics processing unit" even though i changed in the bios to fixed graphics. Should i also uncheck the "automatically select power-saving gpu when on battery?"
Oh wait a min, do i have to switch to fixed graphics everytime in the bios when i reboot the computer? -
No you don't. And if it says the intel card is the current graphics card, then click the "high performance" option and it will switch to the 6770m. If you've been running off of the intel card then thats why your benchmarks have been so low.
-
Thanks for the help. I ran it again and it still gave low results. Maybe because it doesnt recognise my cpu? And it still has an issue with the ati driver. It recognises the ati card and thats what the results came up for.
Maybe i should try a different benchmark test. -
In your configure switchable graphics page, does it still say the Intel "power saving" gpu is the current active gpu?
If so, click the button below that for "high performance" to switch it and then your screen with flicker for a few seconds and it will update.
After you do that, run 3dmark11 and post the results. -
Post those 3dmark scores and then we can tell you if they are low, normal, etc.
-
Ok so i ran 3dmark again and here are the scores:-
P814 3dmarks
719 graphics score
3466 physics score
709 combined score
3fps graphics test 1
3fps graphics test 2
4fps graphics test 3
2fps graphics test 4
11fps physics test
3fps combined test
The test was run 1280x720 even though i have the 1920x1080 screen.
It also said the graphics driver was not approved.
I also ran speedfan to see the temps i got 127F for core0 and 127F for core1. Seems awfully high. -
I assume you are running 3DMark11, those are low.
Those temps of 127°F (53°C) are not much above idle. It will safely crank up a lot higher around 185°F (85°C).
Run GPU-z and select the AMD GPU in the drop down menu look at the sensors tabs and watch the clock of the GPU and memory if that isn't indicating any activity then I would consider doing the following.
Restart between each step perform the following:
- Run the uninstall function in the CCC install file in sp53025.exe "right-click" & choose "run as administrator"
- Run 'Driver Sweeper' to remove any left over AMD files and clear the registry
- Uninstall .NET Framework 4
- Run CCleaner & Auslogics Registry Cleaner to further clean the registry
- Reinstall .NET Framework 4 via the "web installer"
- Update .NET Framework 4 via windows update
- Downgrade the BIOS to F.14
- Upgrade BIOS back to F.1A
- Leave the BIOS in dynamic graphics mode
- Install CCC using the HP file sp53025.exe "right-click" & choose "run as administrator"
- Switch the BIOS to fixed graphics mode
-
Thanks for all the info. I dont know anything about temps of cores, i just thought 127F sounded high. Glad its ok.
Ran gpuz and im getting spikes on the memory and clock speeds and im getting between 100mhz and 750mhz for core clock and 81mhz for memory clock. Well i see a thin red line with short spikes travelling across it. Temp of 53C for gpu temp. -
It is definitely running on the discrete GPU vs the integrated one, that is good.
You could always consider doing a minimized system restore from restore media. -
In your CCC, under "Power", then under "PowerPlay" make sure "Enable PowerPlay" is checked.
Then under "Switchable Graphics" make sure "Automatically select power-saving GPU when on battery" is checked.
Then try to re-run your benchmarks.
Why is my new dv7 testing soo low on benchmarks?
