    Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone knew why there aren't any more matte screen laptops available in the customizable section online? I'm not a fan of the glossy screen at all, and I thought that they would release more matte screens once Santa Rosa came out, but they only have glossy.

    thanks!

Probably because matte screens are 'old tech' now I guess..

HP is going for that sleek, shiny hi-tech entertainment look, so they probably did away with the plain old matte screens in order to be consistent with the shinyness on the rest of the notebook. Plus, glossy screens give the better contrast/vibrant colors that most people expect when they play games or watch movies. After all, the pavilion's are geared towards entertainment.

Likely what bmcc said, glossy screens are the standard now. Most people choose glossy over matte, so by specializing and offering only one type of screen makes production cheaper and more efficient for HP. Glossy screens hurt my eyes though... And it's almost impossible to use your computer outdoors on a sunny weather. Indoors is where glossy screens really shine. So I guess that's a fair trade-off.

I find the glossy screen pretty good, I use it mostly indoors of course. Tilting the screen forward or back to get the right colors is easy. I have found using the power save settings with it in a semi bright room gives off more reflectivity. I use high performance pretty much most of the time though. I tell you what, this setting eats my 12 cell battery in no time!

Which sucks because the Matte screens could be used outside and the new ones you really can't see anything

I found the exact opposite. My old laptop had a matte screen and if it was bright outside I couldn't see anything on it, whether I was facing the sun or facing away from it.

Although my glossy screen is no good when I have my back to the sun, it's find when I'm facing it... which is a vast improvement on my matte screen.

i also noticed when my back is to the sun, I can see more with the glossy. I also noticed that my back rosts to. lol..
i tend to look for shady areas to use my laptop, which I figure is the norm anyway.
