When I leave my notebook idle, my screensaver comes on after a while. So after being left alone even longer, I am assuming my notebook is asleep, since the screen is blank. Now, the LEDs on the quickplay controls and the power button are still on and are blue.
My problem is that nothing can bring my notebook from this state, short of a hard shut down (pushing and holding the power button). I tried pushing some keys, meddling with the mouse pad, and pushing the power button, but nothing works. Is this a display problem? I ask because I get the feeling that my notebook is functioning but my screen isn't.
If anyone can provide some info on this, that will be much appreciated.

I have similar experience with my DV6000t. Nothing wakes it up but a hard shut down.

XP MCE...
What perplexing is that it happens randomly and I am not forced ot do the manual shut down all the time. Sometimes it would wake up and sometimes it won't. So go figure...

I have XP media and it does it also. I think its a problem with windows and not the laptop -

I have a dv9000t with vista on it and it does the same thing. If I wait a couple minutes and try to awaken it again it usually does. Weeeirrd.

sometimes, I can get mine to wake up by hitting Fn+F4 to switch what screen is active. I am not sure if this always works, but it seems to help.
