I set it to turn off in 1min in the power settings of my nc8430 and it never turns off.

    Whats wrong?

At first it would turn off if you used the "Home" settings, now none of them work.

    Help!!!

After changing my power scheme from "Laptop" to "Home" my settings have been a bit weird too. Sometimes the screen will turn off on time properly, and others it will just stay on and go to screen saver. So i'm just as curious as you are.

Start->Control Panel->Power Options (this brings up a new window).

Take a look at the various Power Schemes in the Power Schemes tab and you can see what is available. For each scheme, you can change any of the timing you wish. In particular, look at the "Turn Off Monitor" fields...if those are set to "Never" that is why the LCD never turns off.

When you start changing the power schemes around you will change the timeouts on those events (like how long it waits to go to standby or turn the monitor or hard drive off). Just play around and see what you think is best for you.

Could it be that you have a program running that is somehow keeping your windows active. What i mean is....when i am sending/receiving webcams on MSN Messenger with my Compaq Presario R3000, then none of the power settings work. I've tried everything, but i just can't get my screen to turn off. As soon as i stop viewing the webcams, the settings work and the screen turns off. Weird!
