trying to get my HP zv5000 laptop (widescreen) dialed into my new Westinghouse HDTV via analog signal using VGA connection. Computer picture looks great, but very narrow on the TV screen. How do I get the computer to display it's 'normal' widescreen mode on the HDTV?

What GPU? Cause if you have an Nvidia gpu you should be able to do it through the Nvidia control panel

Have you double checked your GPU control panel?
