    hi,

This is regarding the wifi issue i'm facing for my HP laptop. It has an Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN card.

In the device manager i'm able to find the wireless card however when i try to access a wireless network the scan returns no result. I also tried Intel's diagnostic but it returns 'No network' error when it scans for a wireless network. The LAN card is working fine.

Please let me know if you have faced similar issues and how to fix this problem.

    Thanks..

    Couple of questions:

What OS are you running on? And do you have HP's Wireless Assistant installed?

And a dumb question, but it has to be asked: do you have the LAN card turned on? Blue light on a switch to the left of the I/R receiver and audio inputs?

OS is Windows 7 32 bit.

Yes the WLAN switch is turned on (blue light). I do not have an HP wireless assistant but the one I have is HP Support Assistant. It says the WLAN is disconnected. And does not show any network.

Also tried booting in Fedora but still does not scan any wireless network.

-I'm however able to create a wireless peer to peer network in windows 7 and my other laptop can connect to this network..

The dv6700 was orginally shipped with XP and Vista. It is capable of running Windows 7 x86 just fine, however, I seem to recall nVidia releasing an OS-specific LAN driver for Windows 7. At least that is how it is for my AMD nForce-based dv6700. So you may want to check Intel's support page to be sure you have the correct driver. Also, I have read of users having similar issues that were resolved after installing HP Wireless Assistant.

EDIT: this may help. Worth a try.

Yes your link directed me to intel site where i installed the latest driver. When i went to the wifi settings there is not mac address, no ip address nothing...

A week ago i had to dismantle my laptop completely and bake the motherboard since it started showing black screen.. Luckily the screen works now but not the wifi.

I had double checked the wifi wire connections etc., even the devices gets detected by windows whenever i uninstall the drivers.

What am I missing here ? or has the wifi card just gone kaput?

Just to humour here (and to be absolutely sure)... on your router, is your network's SSID visible? If you have the SSID set to not broadcast, then you will have the problem you currently are facing and your devices will not be able to see or detect your network. Just a wild guess as to the problem here...

I must admit that I do not know much dual-band cards/networking equipment. But to further troubleshoot here: is your router set to operate in dual-band mode (don't know if that makes sense or not)? Is there any software that was included within Intel's driver package that allows you to alter settings for the wifi module? I suppose I am just making certain that settings for your router match what your card is set at. I think I read something about this card having a "friendly neighbour" feature that only permits wireless-N in the 5Ghz band. I may have been mistaken there. Like I said, the whole dual-band technology is new to me.
