    Hi friends.

I recently bought an HP 6715s (Turion X2 1.9GHz, 2 GB RAM, X1250, 120 GB HD, broadcom wifi and ethernet). It came with Vista but I uninstalled that and put Win XP Pro SP2 on.
Now, the problem is that everytime I use the laptop in a position where I am between the laptop and the wireless router, the wifi link drops. In order for the link to be strong the back of the screen has to be pointing towards the router or at least be in that general direction... and this holds true even if there is a wall between it and the router. Can any of you tell me why this is?

The second problem I am facing is that the CPU throtling is not done correctly by WinXP. Even though I followed the instructions posted on the net for fixing the power management problems of XP, it still won't automatically lower the CPU frequency when it is idling in battery mode. I have to go and reselect the same power mode everytime (I am on Portable and have to click Portable once again). Has anyone encountered this before?

I have to add that after a fresh reboot the power management acts correctly. After coming out of standby or hibernation it starts to act as described earlier.

Sounds like a driver issue with regards to the cpu. Have you tried installing different(older/newer) versions of the drivers you are currently using? As for as the power management a quick fix would be to use a utility like RM Clock to manage Powernow instead of Windows. Ofcourse this requires some setup but it should work as well and even better than Windows power management.

Did the wireless work fine in Vista or did it have the same issue?? Check for any interference and disable power saving settings in device manager and see if it improves the reception. Also are you using the correct drivers for the wifi chipset or did you use a similar one.

RMclock solved the power management issues.

The drivers I use for Wifi are the ones from HP so I guess htey are the corect ones. I had ne chance to try Wifi in Vista before I replaced it since I hadn't gotten the wifi router yet. The power saving is turned off already in device manager. Is there anything else I could check?

Also there is one more problem. Once in a while the screen just goes blank and the laptop is nonresponsive. I cannot even turn the wifi off. The only fix is to turn the computer off and restart. When it reboots it goes on like nothing ever happened. Any idea what is going on? I looked on the HP bussiness support fprum and I am not the only one with this problem. It seems to be something from the chipset drivers but I cannot find anything for my chipset (AMD M690T) on the AMD or ATI sites. Plus the fact that when I try to install the latest driver for my video card (ATI X1250 - Ati RS690M)it says that my hardware is not compatible. I read that this video chip was customized for HP and the generic drivers won't work but I want to try something. Can anyone give me any advice?
