Just got a DV9500 in the mail today. Everything is fine except for the wifi card. It says wifi is disable and to enable it, use the wifi button. However, no matter which way I slide it, it stays orange (disabled). Device Manager reads it as "working properly"...so it can read the card. Uninstalled/reinstalled but did not help...neither did updating the drivers. Is there any way to disable/bypass the wifi button so that the card is always enabled???

    go to HP Wireless Assistant,
and make sure the card is turned on from there,
if this doesn't work, try reinstalling the drivers or the HP wireless assistant software (should be in C:\SwSetup)

I would recommend getting Intel's wifi utilities. It provides you with much more information and control.

HP wireless assistant doesn't allow me to turn the device on. Just shows device is disabled and I have use the button to enable it. With the Intel utility, will it allow me to turn on the device with the button not functioning correctly? Is there any utility that will enable the wifi card with the button in the "off" position?

There are some known wireless problems on the HP laptops. If you reinstall the drivers and play with the switch, and it still doesn't work, call HP support. You have 21 days to return the laptop, then you will need to do a warranty repair. I suggest you act quickly in case you need to return the system.

enable the card either in device manager or the wireless utility... or both. or try uninstalling, and then reinstalling the drivers for the wireless.

Have done all of the above with no success. Will try to create recovery discs and reinstall vista. Seems that it possibly could be a software issue rather than the MB or Wifi Card itself.

I've seen how the Intel tools work and I think they are obnoxious. If that's the only way you can get it working, then go for it, otherwise I'd stick to the HP tools.

obnoxious maybe, but much less obnoxious then the wireless zero config. When I used XPs wireless utility, if I disabled the WZC I couldn't find any wireless networks. Good luck.
